I got a small Pietersite chunk on ebay. Was curious about the stuff. I've become a more interested in chatoyant rock since I got some Marramamba. So, I waited for a listing with a smaller chunk that looked more or less free of pitts and fractures and had a good mix of red anb blue. (Getting red, blue, and gold in a small chunk that was solid did not seem possible.) Anyway, the photos shown on ebay are kinda intensified. Under flash, the reds and blues do look like the pics, but in ordinary light the rock is a lot less vibrant. I think I will get some nice slabs, and cut a few good pendant stones. But this little 7oz chunk was $42 with the shipping. Something to think about. I still don't know if fracturing is going to be a problem. When I see how clean and solid the slabs are, I'll post more pics. Here is the ebay pic: ... and here is a more realistic pic (click for full size): With my flash, it brightened up a bit. Still, I think the color saturation may have been tweaked a bit for the ebay pic. I'm not saying the pics ebay sellers are using are fraudulent, or even too far out of bounds. I'm just saying that the rock will not look that bright most of the time; and its something to think about before laying out for high dollar rock.

Their pics are also shown wet Daniel. Try wetting your piece and take another pic. When it's polished it will look nice. Glad you were able to get a small hunk. Rikoo?

Yeah that's just terrible...
tell you what Daniel, I will give you the money you spent on it, just send me the rock and I will issue a full refund, (and I wasn't even the guy who sold it to you!).

Sorry Rally, I *am* looking forward to working it. Ed's right about water helping, although I did wipe it with a damp cloth before I took the pic.
I just want to curb any irrational exuberance. If you like working nice and exotic stuff, it is worth getting some of this. Just be realistic about what to expect.
BTW, Ed, it was gem-zone, but they all have msotly similar stuff.

I took an end cut and a small slab tonight. I cut an oval with a flat top out of the slab. I tried to get a triangular teardrop out of the end cut, but it broke. I may get two neat tumble stones out of the broken end cut. The red-orange area tends to break off of the black-blue part.
I stopped working on the free-form cab after 180g. I think I will tumble finish from here. In the next day or so I will try to take a wet pic of the cab, and the cut face of the chunk. (Not having a photo table set up full time is a real pain.)
