Hi everyone, I live in the Seattle Metro area and Im looking for a little information. I tumble, cut and lap slabs and form cabochons The wife and I would like to make a trip down the Oregon Coast and I was wondering if anyone can afford me any information about beach locations where we might be able to find some nice beach agate, jasper or any nice specimens for tumbling or cutting? We were thinking about the area from say North Bend, OR north to Astoria OR. We would like to make this trip in March or early April after the winter storms. I am somewhat limited in that I have two bum knees and walking for any great distance in dry sand is a problem for me. ( Rock covered beaches and wet sand give me some support under foot and I get along OK just very slow. Any information would greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help Ron

Ron if you pm me with your email I can send you a map for central oregon beaches. Down by North Bend is Seven Devils State park, some of the info I have says it is good, never been there. When you get north of Tillamook, there is not alot of beach rocks. Try www.geocities.com/meyers4kt/?200530 I got this a few years ago if it still available called "Agates of the Oregon Coast" Keith

Hi Ron, Each year each beach is different. West of Tillamook you can find larger sized (thumb to baby fist) colorless agates. Try the state park there. At South Beach - just south of Newport you can find small colored agates - including Newport Blues. From Newport to Florence most of the beaches have agates and jaspers - just stop and look. You can find larger yellow jasper pieces that are fun to cut. I'm being called to dinner - more later. Steve

A bit North of Bandon is the Seven Devils State Park - walk south. Lots of pet wood, small agates and jaspers On the state park beaches immediately north of Bandon - lots of sugar agates, jaspers. Then south to Port Orford. Lots of white rocks that polish up nice, red jasper, rare agates. Between Florence and Coos Bay are most sand dunes. Hope this helps.

My brother lives in Florence, and whenever I get a chance to visit...I usually stroll the South Jetty beach. I have a friend who finds some nice agates..and some bigger pieces too. I heard around Yachats is a good place too. Good-Luck! Get up early to go looking..because there are alot of Agate Hunters out there. Steve

The Salem club members are reporting that many days the sand is completely removed from the area below NewPort around Lost Creek. But, I did hear one report fo someone who only found some fossil shells.
One storm can bring 10ft of sane in or out.
I have not gone yet because most of the stuff is smaller. Thumb size nodules seem rarer. Not quite cutting size, and I have enough tumble rough right now.
