I have been trying to put a gloss on “Apache Tears”. The finish keeps coming out muted. Any suggestions as to how to raise the sheen to the next level?

Try using plastic pellets to keep them from beating each other up.
Works with glass and regular obsidian. I haven't done any tears.

This thread seems in the wrong place, but I got good results with AO in a Lot-O-Tumbler

This might be of some help:
Shawn, over at The Rock Shed, posts this information about Apache Tears:
"Apache Tears....Although somewhat harder to polish than the harder stones such as agate they will make a very pretty tumbled stone. They will polish best by not mixing with other types of stone and using an additional step with 1000 grit Aluminum Oxide. Use plastic pellets to cushion them in the last three finish steps."
