Sorry all, I really didn't want to start another thread so soon, but I have (maybe?) a problem. Just started my new 15# Thumler's less than 2 hours ago for the first time. All good, I thought... While I was in the shower ( getting all the mineral oil off me from my trim saw ) my wife came in and told me that the tumbler was "Squealing like a b*tch". Okay, that's probably not a good thing. I went to check on it and, naturally, it's not squealing. But, The drive shaft end away from the motor is VERY hot. the end by the motor isn't too bad, and the idler shaft isn't hot at all. I shut it down and checked to make sure that the "anti-rotation dogs" on each bearing were in the up position. They are. Started it back up and in just a few minutes the same drive shaft end is heating up again. Not the other 3. The tumbler has 14 pounds 11 ounces in it, totaling 20 lbs 8 oz. Just checked on it again, still no "squealing", but that ONE end is hot. You wouldn't want to press your finger against it for more than a few seconds. The other shaft ends are fine. Any ideas or suggestions? (other than ear plugs) Aside: VERY pleased with how quite this thing is. Never had a tumbler and read different opinions here on the noise level. I could sleep with this running nearby and was expecting much worse!

Bob, you did put some light oil on the bushings, right?
PS Make sure you don't get it on the belt.

um... no. The manual said to oil the motor bearings, but nothing about the bushings. Just tried that, fingers crossed.
That one end is so hot that I'm going to have to turn it off when I go to sleep, I'd be too worried if I left it on.

It was the bushings needing oil Running cool and quiet now. How often do they need oiling? Thanks to catmandewe for the help with this one and to all for your answers to my many questions along the way. The knowledge that I've gained just from reading past threads here is immeasurable. Nothing like jumping into a new hobby with a blindfold on! But, I figure it'e like learning to swim. My dad took me to the end of the dock and threw me in! I'll always appreciate that... at least he didn't put a weight belt on me first

I was going to suggest you put a small fan on it. My Lortone 33B gets real hot on the motor end and will damage the belt so I have a small fan running on low when it is running, no more damaged belts. Tami

It wouldn't hurt to put a drop or two on each bearing at the beginning of each run.

I oil mine everytime I change grit, sometimes more often if I am lazy and let that grit stage run longer. It will start squeaking and let you know if you wait too long.

I'm nearly totally mechanically dis-inclined, and since my diagram doesn't show bushings.... I have no idea where/what those are.... but I put a drop of mineral oil anywhere there was potential rubbing... and definately kept it away from the belt/pulley.

It appears they have the lid on "inside out".... wonder if that's the reason why someone decided to get rid of it....

Gosh dang leaky tumblers!! This hobby SUCKS! I just today ordered a 2nd 15#er. Lock Stock and Barrel was out of them, found one at Buffaloarms for $131 Also ordered a 9# (Thumler AR-6) from Lock Stock etc The empty 12#er sitting in the garage is yelling at me to get cutting some %#@ rocks! Gotta run to Home Depot (building a shelf to hold tumblers then back to cutting. It never ends does it??
