:-/there is a required symettry with butterflies that is not required for fish.... but ya gotta try these things i guess. not a total wasted batch, but nor quite the success i'd hoped for: the agate did a lot better than the tigereye........ in trying to tumble out the saw marks, i tumbled out the shape. here are some bits that Steve Holmes sent me, i have yet to try and cab some of this: and what would be a batch without at least one piece of lace? thanks for looking! KD, What a Great Idea! I love the Fishbowls and now I guess I'm gonna have to try some of the Butterfly Skies! I think the green ones turned out pretty darn nice. I can see these flying around in some fishbowls wiith some silk flowers. I do like the idea of butterflies too! love your Lace and even those pieces I sent you turned out pretty good. You'd think with that stuff...the gold-material would fleck out during the tumbling..but it seems more malleable. Very cool batch...and I wouldn't call it a failure! Steve

Some of those turned out really really nice, what a great idea. Did you just use your saw to shape them? Lovely batch over all KD, beautiful hunk of lace there. I really like the green butterflies. ;D

Are you doing those in a rotary tumbler? A vibe can get rid of the saw marks without grinding the shape away. That's still a beautiful batch darlin!

The only ones that don't still look like butterflies to me are the two large tiger eye ones. A couple just look like they're old and have been attacked by cats or something.
Still very pretty.

KD, I think your butterflies are really cute. And the rest of the batch is pretty cool too. The crazy lace turned out fabulous.

KD, you are your own worst critic. ;D I think most of those butterflies turned out really nicely, forget about the few that didn't. And everything else in the batch turned out superbly, so I have to call that SUCCESS, not fail. Wicked lace BTW, I swear you have the world's primo lace agate dealer in your pocket! -Don

I can see what you mean about the shape but some of them came out really nice, the green ones especially. Great batch over all.

I think your butterflies are really nice, especially for your first try at them! Prehaps one could make the shapes exaggerated so the tumbling process would still leave the design with good definition. The green ones are really nice as they are now! Bill

KD the batch is great, I think the butterflies turned out good. I have been wanting to do those, my wife is butterfly crazy, as well as Unicorn crazy. I did the unicorn, I guess I will have to try the butterfly now. That shine on the others is awesome. Terry

How about making wings and a cylindrical body, tumbling them separately, and assembling them after they are polished? I think I've seen someone do that before and they even added wire antennae. They came out really cool looking....Mel
