I cut up a green rock that I thought was malachite and am having trouble getting a decent polish on it. I took it along to the rock club meeting (Sioux Empire Gem and Mineral Society) and one of the members thought that the reason I was having trouble getting a decent shine was that it could be JADE. So I need to ask the Jade experts here what to use for a final polish. I have tried everything I can think of. Thanks

If you are buffing on a wheel try Zam. A jade dealer I know uses a diamond stick polish from Diamond Pacific called Super Polish, 14,000 grit. You could also try zinc chromate which I have heard is zam in powdered form. Have you tried scratching the rock with a knife? Serpentine scratches easily and jade doesn't. With jadeyou will have a silver streak on the rock that will rub off. That is steel coming off the blade. Serpentine can be polished with all of the above also.

I tried some zam but it didn't shine as much as I hoped. I will try a couple more times, but this rock is close to getting moved to the back of the line
