Here's some cabs I finished up last Friday...sorry, I'm slow with the photos. Blue wonderstone from Redwoodrocks...yep, it rocks, alright! Chrysocolla from michaeljohn An unknown...jasper, I'm guessing. And lastly...the one I need some help with. This is from a slab of Quantum Quattro that Redwoodrocks sent me. It works beautifully! BUT, even after working for ages on my 100k grit belt, I just couldn't get it to shine. It's got a nice matte finish, but that's not really what I'm going for. It's SUCH a gorgeous stone, it deserves a perfect shine. Any advice? For those not familiar with Quantum Quattro, it's a combo of shattuckite (royal blue), chrysocolla (robin's egg blue), dioptase (forest green), malachite (light green) with some smoky quartz thrown in for good measure.

The unknown is my favorite, beautiful shape ans shine. The last one looks very good. Sorry I can't help, but I also found difficult to polish soft stones.

Most excellent cabs Titania. You really get a great shine on those cabs. The blue can shine if you soak in opticon. I never used the stuff personally but I heard it really works wonders.

on the softer stones, i use zam. It seems to work better then anything else. Your cabs look great. I love the unknown.

I was wondering about using something like Opticon...hopefully someone that's used it before will chime in. Still, it feels a little like "cheating", you know?

Really nice cabs Titania. Have you contacted Cal about the quatro? I have a cab of his made from it and it definitely has a great shine to it so I know its possible.

Try taking it back to 3000 and up again.. that works for me sometimes when I can't get a good shine. And use leather if you don't have it.. that is worth a try too. Sometimes when I come off the 3000 belt and think I have the start of a nice shine, I'll go to the 3000 leather disk and then I see what a real 3000 shine is Nice work on all and very nice material! Good luck with the shine. T

Nice cabs, all of them. Some of that material from Cal will take a better shine than other copper type minerals, and that includes different areas from the same slab. Opticon is hit and miss, I've used it for sealing cracks and sometimes it works and other times it doesn't. So I wouldn't bother trying it. Tony W has the right idea, take it back to 3k and go over it really good, then go to 14k paste on leather and on to 50k paste.

Thanks for all of the advice! I think I'll try taking it back up to 3k, then on up again on my belts. If that doesn't work, I'll get a leather pad and work it through that way instead.
