Really, I think I'm the luckiest person on the earth because I was able to purchase this from Philip Stephenson from Tiger Oak. Can you believe it's Willow Creek? It's 2 1/2 X 1 1/2. (I shoulda put something in for size ref. My bad.) It's hard to see cause it's a dark piece but Philip describes it as burgandy orbs with halo's of yellow. All I know is I fell in love with it. Because of the beveled edges, it reminded me of Sands cabs. It'll be a while, but if I ever set it, I'm gonna do it in gold. Thanks for lookin all!

Lucky You Liz! That is one amazing cab. I think the colors and patterns in that stone are phenomenal...and the shape is almost medieval! Too Cool! I've never heard of Phillip Stephenson. Does he have a website?? Steve

Oh my gosh! Pete sent me the link to Phillips site...and I must say I am drowning in drool...and would love to be able to get a hand on a piece of that amazing material. There's a really interesting story about Morrisonite on his site...how it was found and a little history about it. I could only imagine how fun it would have been to stumble on that gorgeous rock and vein...or whatever it was. What some gorgeous pieces of material Phillip has on his site. I'll bet the collection is worth a pretty penny...and I'm sure glad he's making a online museum for everyone to enjoy. Steve

Tony...I got to speak with Philip yesterday on the phone. That man is a walking encyclopedia about rock...especially Morrisonite and Willow creek, and I learned quite a bit in just a few minutes. I asked him the question: Besides buying rough from reputable sellers, how does the average person know if what he's buying is actually willow creek or bruneau or what ever? (I asked because this cab in no way looks like typical willow creek and when a person gets into the more uncommon colors of hi-grade rocks, it would be easier to be led astray by a scoundrel! LOL) His answers were: Knowing who you're buying from is probably the #1. After that, knowing the geological aspect of the rough plays a huge part. I had alway heard about nodules & seams but he put it in a way for me that finally...a lite bulb went off! Morrisonite is always from a seam. (although...follow this link www.tigeroakantiques.com/TigerOakWeb/RocksFossilsMeteo/morrisonite/collection/masters/morrisonitecollection11.htmPhilip said this was a once in a lifetime find. It's a very rare nodule shape instead of the seam, PLUS the rare coloring. It's my favorite morrisonite piece of his and he told me a serious collector was not happy with him when he offered $3000 for it & Philip declined. Sheesh) Willow Creek & Bruneau are always formed in nodules and they have a specific type of casing on the outsides (I can't find my notes but one of them is a ryolite) I asked him what was the largest nodule he knew of and he said a bruneau was found that was about 1/2 the size of a VW. It was great to get to speak with him. As he's telling me these stories, he was setting up in Boise for a show and as he'd talk about various mines, he laugh & say "Well...setting up across from me is so & so who owns this mine...& there's what's his name that owns that mine &..." I just can't say enough about the quality of rough this man deals with nor how generous he is with his knowledge and his time.

I guess when he says it is not for sale he means it. That is one nice looking cab; reminds me of a shield with medival heraldry on it.
