Here is a photo of my first attempts at cabochon making. I only have the good old WF saw now, I am still shopping for a vibratory tumbler to finish them, but I figured I could show my early progress. Thanks to everyone in this forum, you've been great- Any comments or suggestions would be truly appreciated!

Well Hello Snivlem! looks like you have one helleva eye for pattern.. I got my eye on that very bottom red one! And Dark pink one just above it.. and then that other mossy red.. ya know what.. I can't find one that I don't like.. and I'm gonna be straight up honest.. i'm a bit jealous now.. I can't even cut shapes .. I've tried.. and mine seem to come out deformed.. lol.. But No Doubt about it.. You are a Natural.. Can't wait to see them finished!

Hey, you have some really great looking stuff there. Nice shapes!! Nothing wrong with "only having a workforce" those little buggers do a helluva job. What is that stuff on the right side, bottom rectangle and several other pieces, that's some nice looking rock.

I really like the picasso marbles - I especially like the squarish ones of those!

GREAT job, snivlem! Those preforms looks absolutely stunning considering they were cut on a saw!!!! I can't imagine how you manage to get those round cuts so smooth! And you've done a great job on the bevels, too. Can't wait to see them all finished!

Thanks everyone- I really like the picasso marble (the ones you mentioned Cher)as well, it is a bit softer, so it is any easy stone for me cut slabs from rough, and it does have wicked designs in it!
Any suggestions about which rocks to tumble with each other would be appreciated as well. I know some are much harder than others, and I don't want them to damage the softer ones.
And I have really found that I enjoy just cutting the stone where I see fit instead of using templates and tracing. Let's my artistic eye take over my ego eye!
Thanks so much for the responses!

That's some great looking rock. I started out doing the same thing, shaping on the WF and then vibing. Some of them will get undercutting when they tumble so they all wont turn out perfect but most will turn out great.

yeah I cant afford a wet cab system yet, so the WF/vibe combo will have to suffice!
