Been dragging rocks home from the Arizona desert for about 20 years. My wife and I figured we'd try and do something with them, so hope you guys don't mind me pestering you with questions for a while.
I bought a Workforce saw last night and a belt sander. We have 2 3lb tumblers and just ordered a double 3 pounder so we're going to give it a go.
This seems like a good forum with helpful people and am looking foward to participate.
Take Care..............John

New guy is supposed to bring the beer! ;D Welcome to the forum John. 20 years worth of rocks yer gonna need more tumblers! The forum just went through a "rearrangement" and this tumbling area is pretty new, so not many threads here yet. You may want to do some reading in the "General" section, the Lapidary Tips and General Rocks Board have many threads with more information than you can ever remember. Looking forward to seeing you around the board and ... did I mention that we like pictures here? 20 years of rocks gotta mean a WHOLE bunch of pictures! Feel free to ask questions, someone here will probably have an answer, if not, I'll make one up...

Welcome!
I was just thinking ... I have an acre and have been collecting for a couple of years now. If I continue "having rocks follow me home" like they always do, in 20 years I'll need to find somewhere else to put my house!

Hi azjohn lol you sound like me I too had just collected for over 20 years. Then about 3 years ago I decided the piles were getting out of hand so what to do was a dilemma. See I was a closet rock hound not telling anyone that I had this rock problem. I told my wife all the time that I wanted to make some nice jewelry with them. I never really done anything with them till my father in-law was told about my addiction. That year (3years ago) he bought me a harbor freight tumbler it sat for a year almost. I now have 15 drums most are of the 3lbs size, one work force saw,a 12'' saw,a 20'' vibe lap,a gy-rock vibe tumbler,a pixie cab machine,a 6 inch flat lap,and last and also the least a complete inland swap top with every thing you can get with it,oh i forgot the bench grinder. So thats where you are headed now to lol.BTW good luck and welcome to the greatest forum on the net.I read something on here every day that i did not know it seems. Some great info and equally great people that are just the nicest people I have never met. George

Yah, and the newest members get their boxes first ;D Eileen Oh no no Eileen, members with the most posts get theirs first. ;D Welcome to RTH John! I sure hope you have a camera because pictures are an absolute must!! And just so you know, when you see mention of an FRB, that's flat rate box. The post office loves rockhounders.

LOL Cher! Now I know why you and Stefan are in a race! Welcome to the board! With all the collecting our AZ contingent does, I say we all go on a road trip and just bounce from house to house.... We might even put a dent in the legendary fence of Jamie's.

Welcome John! Pay no attention to the greedy rockhounds and the FRB rules. You only have to send one to each member of RTH that has the same first name as you. john

Thanks for the warm welcome, I appreciate it.
I'll try and get some rocks gathered up for pics, they're kind of strewn everywhere. Tree wells. border for cactus garden and such.
We're not that knowledgeable about the different kinds of rock, we use the "that looks cool" method ;D. Like I said I'm sure I'll be pestering you guys for info.
Take Care............John
