I wouldn't mind finding some sites myself. I'm not able to get out and collect, but I can sure put the wife to work, and even though the kids are grown now, they still like to go camping with us, so they could collect to.

We have a lot of unakite here...VA state stone. There is quartz, but most is pretty fractured. Found a beautiful blue vein of it. It might be good for tumbling. Love to find some other rock to work with that's found in VA.

In NOVA there is apparently a lot of malachite and azurite, but houses sitting on top of each of the "prospects". Figures!
There is a mine in Manassas that does tours, but you need to be with a club for collecting.

Well I can't thank you all enough for your kindness and information. floydrocks, do you have any pictures of this beautiful blue vein of quarts? and is it easy to just go out and find unakite out in that part of the state? Thanks Zethus

Bent Mountain is full of unakite...just south of Roanoke. The blue quartz is on private property and they would charge you an arm and leg for it. We do have a chunk of it and if you want some, send me a PM with your address.

If you don't mind paying, someone brought this mine to my attention. It's only going to be open for 8 weekends this spring though. I think they're in the process of selling the mine. www.toteshows.com/morefield.htmlLee

Great. Let me know how it goes. I'm not physically able to collect, but I can put my wife to work or see if my son wants to go.
