I have boxes of unpainted ceramic pieces around here that I am going to trash (one of my mothers former hobbies). Do you think that the busted up pieces would work for filler? I've been busting them up anyway before I throw them out just so they don't take up so much room. I saved the last batch when it hit me that there could be a use for the stuff. Lee

There's all sorts of different ceramics and yours may be too soft for the tumbling hobby.
Give it a try! What have you got to loose?

If it is too soft, it will grind up really fast. This will help though in making a dense slurry. If it is an hard ceramic, it will act as a burnisher. This helps in the polish stage. I would throw some in and see what happens. Either way it will not hinder.

Thanks all. Guess it won't hurt to try.

I suspect that the tumbling media is more like little pieces of the ceramic that is used for making corning ware, etc. It's much, much harder than the ceramic bisque you are probably referring to. I go with Docone's suggestion.

Just a follow-up. I gave this a try and after a couple of days all I had was a slurry so thick it resembled the clay that the pottery was originally made of. It was so bad me wife even jokingly said we could save it to make new pottery. There wasn't a bit of the ceramic pieces left. It was a real pain cleaning this mess out of the barrel.
