Hi,
I had a problem with polishing a hematite cab. I wanted to improve the shine using the cabbing machine, but only managed to ruin the gloss that cab had due to tumbling.
Any ideas/recipes please?
Thank you,
Adrian

Two days ago I just finished my first two hematite cabs. I think that the main point is the type of backing for polishing compound. I managed to get good results with diamond paste on soft felt wheel. I also heard for a tip to try polishing hematite with the jewelers rouge. Tried that also but with no visible improvement in comparing with already achieved results. Zoki

Thank you Zoran! What's that new avatar? Is this you pictured there? Is there a story behind?

Yes, Adrian. It is me on the Aussie opal cab. There are no real story. I just wanted picture for Facebook avatar, since here in Belgrade everybody have cool pics of themselves. So, I played a bit wit Photoshop. That was just my way of making cool pics of me. I wanted to emphasize what I am doing with rocks. But, I think I'll change this avatar very soon. Meanwhile here is the bigger avatar picture Zoran

Cool idea! So this cab with picture does not exist for real, I understand. A doublet with a laser engraved picture wouldn't be impossible to make though, especially for a skilled artist like you.

it may not work but doc gave me a tip awile back and when i have a stone thats on the soft side and wont take a polish i use a felt wheel and zam and it usually gives it a nice shine but like i said i havent tried it on hemitite -- but have had good luck with sodalite and a few others -- worth a try
