I got this off to the Orchid list. It was posted by someone who is having good luck with elastic ponytail holders for replacement belts on the Harbor Freight/Central Electric tumbler:
>>That particular machine is kind of notorious for its belt issues. We have one in our shop at school and it's driven us nuts since we got it. The one thing we've found that works for the belt replacement is the metal-free elastic ponytail holders... the thick ones. They come in a variety of diameters, and the largest is just about perfect in tension and size to drive the thing. Now we keep a bag handy for whenever we need one. <<
Orchid is a free, moderated list of Bench Jewelers, metal smiths, etc. If is a vital resource to me and my business. Their posts are archived along with a ton of articles written by world renown teachers and metalsmiths.

Hmmmm I use that sort of hair elastics... and they do have a nasty habit of stretching out on me... so my question would be if $1.50 for a bag of 50ish (at least the ones I get)... last longer than the $3 (or so) for a replacement belt or O-ring. And if its worth the trouble to replacement when they wear out.
Of course I don't have a HF/CE tumbler so it doesn't really apply to me! lol
