Bought a bunch of pet wood last year and just now slabbing it. This was in with it and not sure if this is wood or not. The colors really don't show in the pic. Has a lot of blues, pink, purple and red. Can anyone help solve the mystery??? Cheryl

it looks like wood to me, but i'm no expert. usually i can tell by the sides, you can kinds see what would look like the bark from the tree. It sure is pretty no matter what it is.

Not sure. We have some local jasper/flint whatever that looks like that sometimes. It looks a little more porous than most of my pet wood does. Noticing the regularity of the little speckles has me wondering whether it might be some kind of bone or maybe some other type of fossilized critter. Sorry, that's all I can think of.

Thanks for the help. Ralph..I also think it's pet wood, but John is not so sure. We polished a piece last night and it's a pretty mystery piece..LOL That will be the label on it at the show.

It looks like palm wood. But a picture of the thickness of the slab would help a lot. If it's wood, there must be some paralel lines instead of the orbs that appear in the cut.
Nice and unusual colors for a palm wood.

Hmm. That's an odd one. It looks a bit like Prairie Agate or Mozarkite to me but in some ways , especially the exterior, reminds me of palm fiber too. Nice colors anyway and very interesting specimen with all those little orbs......Mel

Here is a small polished piece we did from the slab today. It took a high polish. Pretty neat stuff..what ever it is.
