Remember when I posted that my cabber had died? Well I finally felt well enough to check it out - I took the pulley off the motor and the motor turns fine (yeah at least that's okay) Then I removed the cover where the belt was and started looking - sprayed lubricant where I could and found that it was the arbor that didn,t turn - RUST! - I managed to get it moving by turning it by hand but it was really jammed! - I attached the belt again, plugged in the unit and turned on the motor - SCREEEEEECH! - Hmmm still a problem I started taking apart & moving the parts in there and found the part that was making the noise - between the blade part & the wheel part there is where the belt goes along with covered parts in there - turns out the part near the blade seemed pretty yucky - I took apart & moved what I could and removed (or moved over) most pieces - I WD40d the part, cleaned it up with paper towels & then blasted it repeatedly with lube! - there was only one part that I couldn't remove and that maybe I should have tried - it's still making a horrible screaching sound but at least now it turns and I'll be able to use it again I'm rather proud of myself but I wish it would have fixed the problem completely anyone know if there are bearings in there? - they can't be finished already, I used it quite a bit but not THAT much!

Do the bearings need grease?

The bearings are insert type (mounted in rubber) and held in place by metal 4 bolt covers. The bearings are held in place with allen head set screws. Remove any corrosion from the shafts with sand paper and the bearings slide off. Kingsley has them listed really cheap so I'm assuming they are bushings rather than ball bearings. Insert ball bearings run almost $30 each but last longer. If it has sleeve bearings and making noise you are worn through the bearing and now going to wear out the shaft. It would be cheaper to replace the bearings now rather than the bearings and shaft later.
