Oh yeah I like that stuff! May I inquire as to where you purchased it?

Nice slabs! I'm really fond of McDermitt Jasper even though it's often a bit of a booger to get a good shine on. Some of the pictures in that stuff are just fantastic......Mel

Hmmm ... looks like Indian Paint Stone, to me. How hard is that stuff?

I'm pretty sure its McDermitt. It's fairly hard like a porcelain sandstone. Here are 2 pics of the rough. The colors are more true since I tend to go overboard with the photo editing program Geoff

I'm with Mel, if they shine up you're lucky, because a lot of that does tend to be somewhat porous, but if you can get a shine on them, you will for sure have some awe inspiring pieces

Those are really nice! I've had decent luck putting a better than matte shine on the McDermitt stuff I have usine diamond on resin and leather.
MichaelJohn - Indian paint doesn't have any scenes in them. They have bold colors (reds, yellows, blacks, greys) in lines and blots.

Hehehe I don't know about OTHER Indian Paint Stone, but the stuff near my mine has scenes. I don't know about ALL of it, but at least some of it does. I have a piece right here, in my hand ... looks sorta like agate, but with no gloss or translucency. I posted pics of the massive outcrops of this stuff last week. I never bothered slicing any of it because (IMO) it's too soft for lapidary use. That's why I asked how hard his stuff is. I just scratched this piece with a key and it left a mark, but didn't scratch the stone.
