I have found a way to increase my enjoyment of cutting on the workforce saw - Earmuff sound protectors. Before the earmuffs, I could only cut in 10-15 minute increments before the loud noise would start to bother me. Now, with the ear muffs, I can cut until my fingers look like prunes.
Does anyone else use sound protectors? Or, I am the only one looking dorky?

Call me dorky too. I use my shooting earmuffs when I'm using my WF. I didn't realize how loud it actually was until my I did some cutting when my wife was home. She gave me a choice. Stop or take it outside. Being only 20 degrees I quit.

Cal, I went one step further and got some shooting earmuffs that have an input jack to connect an MP3 player. So now, I'm protecting my hearing AND listening to tunes while I work on my saw!

i use my mp3 player too, the earbuds and the music cancel out much of the noise. I'm going to get a pair of safety muffs too though.

What a great idea! I was using earplugs, but now I'll have to sneak my husband's noise-cancelling headphones! Maybe I should get a few pairs for the neighbors, too....

I have significant hearing loss in one ear and quite a bit in the other (from a lifetime around loud machinery....on the farm as a kid, various industrial jobs, etc.) so what remaining hearing that I have is very precious. I wear hearing protection ear muffs when sawing, grinding on my lapidary unit, using any power tools, etc. All loud noises destroys your hearing.....permanently! If you want to continue hearing the beauty of music, out in the woods, soft whispers in your ear from your mate and such, be safe and protect what you have! I feel sorry for our youth with loud rock music, high volume on their Ipods and boom boxes. They are PERMANENTLY damaging their ears at a much earlier stage in their lives than us in the older generations have done. Bob

Call me paranoid, but I use hearing protection any time I cut, or drill rock - and mow the law or run the weed whacker Can't be too safe with your hearing or your eye sight, I always say.
