We went during Pow Wow and found a bunch of stuff! I loved it! It was towards the end of January.

Hi, It's been 25yrs since I last attended the Quartzsite Show, what I can say about the show is that unless you plan your visit to coincide with the Pow Wow, as a Rock Hound you might be disappointed. The 43rd Annual QIA Pow Wow Gem & Mineral Show is... January 21 - 25, 2009 For further info goto... www.qiaaz.org/ Hope this helps, Derek

Quartzite only has two "rock shows" left. The QIA-Pow Wow mentioned and Desert Gardens. Desert Gardens Runs through January and February. The best choices for rough is at Desert Gardens although a lot of those dealers set up for the Pow-Wow as well. If you are there for the last weekend in Jan. you'll see plenty. You should come to Cloud's 115 miles North and see us the whole month of January. Lots of rough there too.

Thanks Derek & John!! I am trying to coordinate a trip into LA with a side visit to Quartzite with a rental car, hotel and flight back to Ohio. I was told it will be a five hour drive from LA and was thinking about an overnight or two in Blythe so dates become important to try and schedule this where it works for me. Is Desert Gardens the same as Tyson Wells Sellarama or are they two different shows? And....is Clouds in Laughlin....I would like to do all of them but unfortunately time and travel constraints say otherwise. Is the Desert Garden or Pow Wow the best choice for rough,,,or Clouds??? I know the one place I did about four years ago was like a flea market with rough vendors plugged in every so often....not what I wanted to see but I don't know which show it was. How far is Clouds from LA??? Does it make more sense to drive into Tuscon or back to LA to fly out??? Any help would be appreciated.

Tyson is pretty much a swap meet as is the Main Event show. Desert Gardens is at the West end of town and has more rough dealers than Pow-Wow. Pow-Wow can be seen in one day and Desert Garden rush through in a day. Make reservations early. Blythe is the closest town with motels. Cloud's is 15 miles South of Laughlin on the Indian reservation Casino grounds. It's a great show but if you have to pick one I'd say experience Quartzite (or what's left of it). The RV dealers and swap meets are taking over. Quartzite is only an hour or so from Phoenix so I'd fly out of there. Tucson is another hour or two South of Phoenix

I attended both shows in Quartzite this year and found plenty of rough rock for slabbing. There is a rock show at the Avi Indian Casino during the last part of Jan. I take the wife down their for her birthday on the 29th and do some rough rock buying at a discount price do to show is ending.
