![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v292/krazyD/texas02.jpg) my aunt and uncle have this in Texas and wanted to know what it was....they said it was heavy. i think it's just glass, but do you suppose it could be some exotic flavor of obsidian? looks like someone took a slice off it.... any help would be appreciated. thanks, KD

I'd guess its slag glass, we had a huge debate on the subject of green obsidian here a while ago, and I don't remember anyone having anything that proved to be anything other than slag.

The exterior doesn't indicate any natural surfaces typical of Obsidian. Looks like a pretty chunk of slag. Bob

I have a chunk that looks just exactly like that. The consensus when I posted the picture was slag glass too.
Personally, I think it is more fun to say that it is a giant emerald, too pretty to cut.

Looks like glass, but it's sure a very pretty color of glass! No reason why one couldn't have fun working it.

I just sent a large piece of Green Obsidian rough to Tony Funk and he is slabbing it for me. Maybe he can post a picture before he sends it to me. He said he was cutting half of it with the grain and half across the grain. If anyone would like some (green ) rough there is a Green Obsidian mine in Oregon that is owned by a gentlman named Craig Ratzat. You can find him by typing in a search for Green Oregon Obsidian.
There really IS such a thing !!!!!
