Move over lace agate, FoMoCo is taking over. Check this stuff out. And here's a couple more pieces. These were all cut from the same area off the chunk, it just depends on how you grind off the outer layers. In case you've never seen this stuff before, it's Fordite, layers of built up paint from the old assembly lines at the Ford Plants.

Very nice patterns! Reminds me about Koroits. What's the hardeness of this stuff?

Is that how they're making they're money these days??? That stuff is really neat. I like the many different patterns that unveil themselves. Steve

Neat Fordite. I got a small chunk, but have hesitated to cut it.
How did it work? Was it fragile?

Great looking cabs, it might be fun to try making some of that if a guy had access to large quantitys of 2 part epoxy paint. Some of that stuff is fairly hard.

This stuff is really cool to work with. I cut a slab off the chunk I got from my local rock shop owner, then cut these three pieces from the slab. It's fairly soft, not as soft as seraphinite so you can push on it a little bit on the 80g wheel. You have to know when to stop though because one moment it looks nice and the next time you look, it's a completely different pattern. What was strange is that I couldn't get it to take a shine after going from 8k diamond belt to 50k paste. I wound up having to go back and wet sand it by hand with 2k paper, then apply a coat of Turtle Wax and buff it with a soft cloth!

That stuff is so awesome, it sure makes some pretty cabs. TI wound up having to go back and wet sand it by hand with 2k paper, then apply a coat of Turtle Wax and buff it with a soft cloth! Why does this not surprise me, I mean after all it is car paint. ;D
