Hey everyone, I bought a bunch of cabs and there are prices on the backs of them in marker. What is a safe way to remove the ink but not damage the cab? Would alcohol remove it? Alot of these are agates and when you hold them up to the light you can see the price which will not work for jewelry. It would have been a whole lot nicer if they would have put maybe a price sticker on them instead of marker.

Rubbing alch (99% pref.) or acetone and a Q-Tip should do the trick. If the backs are smooth a fresh razor blade can scrape off the marker (be very careful). Geoff

I would start with soap and water.

Good idea stardiamond. I haven't done anything yet so will try the easiest thing first. My main worry is spilling any of the alcohol or acetone on the front and ruining the polish on them.

Yes, very good idea. That's what the conservators do, use the least harmful cleaner first. Dot, you shouldn't have to worry about removing the polish on the front. There is no applied polish to remove the stones are actually ground SO fine on diamond and other polishes that they are like a granite countertop.

That's good to know about not ruining the polish. I tried a couple and I ended up using alcohol. On some the marker came off really easy and some took alot of elbow grease. I guess some of these were marked a long time ago.
