Howdy all. I am looking for a little help with a rock ID. I bought this piece 20 years ago. At that time the seller called it Matrix Opal from down under. Lately I have been seeing some gorgeous cabs here that are being called Boulder Opal. Are they the same stone or do I have Matrix Opal? I have always been afraid to do anything with it other than just to take it out and look at it from time to time. Well my courage is up now that I have seen some of you alls cabs. They are absolutely stunning. The next question is weather I should be cutting this with oil or water or does it matter? The Color runs through it in a flat layer parallel to its long direction which means that I either cut through it and hope for two large slabs of full of flash or cut perpendicular and get several smaller pieces with a stripe of color through them. What do you all think my plan of attack should be? Thanks for any input. Brad

Gorgeous stuff - I think (and everyone correct me if I'm wrong) you actually do have black matrix opal.
The boulder opal is actually still encased in the ironstone, whereas you have a solid hunk there.
