Hubby and I took off Saturday morning for Barstow to do some rock hunting. We went to the Calico mountains to look for agates and petrified wood. We went there last year with our local club but it was in the middle of summer and was too hot to spend too much time there. To get there we always drive through the Red Rock National Park and I finally got hubby to pull over so I can get a couple of pictures. Here are a few pictures of the ravines and canyons we explored. This rock had an enormous amount of red druze, or as my granddaughter calls it, red sparklies. I suck at picture taking so you can't see the sparkle. This piece has alot of greens and patches of blue that you can't really see in the picture This piece has bands of agate in it. I don't know if it will be worth doing anything with it when I cut it but hey, you never know. This last piece looks like a sponge but at the top is a really nice agate. I will try to take a better picture of it. It has too many pits for cabbing but maybe when I cut it I may be able to get something out of it. We picked up some other pieces and alot of small bits of agate for the tumbler. It wasn't a really big haul but it was worth it to get away for the weekend ;D Dot

Great trip Dot! That landscape is really something. It's so totally different from here. Here you can't see anything for the trees. Looks like some interesting rocks. Be sure to show us what they look like slabbed. Curt

Thanks Curt! Some parts of the mojave desert was really spectacular with all the wild flowers in bloom but hubby didn't take too kindly to pulling over on the side of the freeway just so I can take some pictures.
