If you don't know about my challenges with vibe tumbler bowls see the Vibe Tumbler Blowout thread: tinyurl.com/2ues2bWell the Harbor Freight bowl worked great but was showing signs of wear just where I expected at the indentations of the bowl. You could see light starting to show through at those spots. I stuck some steal epoxy putty on the outside to get it to last a little longer. But it looks like the HF bowls are not a long term solution for the grit stages. I have one I'm using for polishing and it's holding up fine. So I ordered a Thumlers 3 qt replacement bowl for $56.00 at Kingsley North (yeah they still do business with me inspite of my hissy fit). Anyway it arrived today. Wow! What an industrial strength bowl! And it bolted right on to my Raytech TV-5 motor. Thumler 3 qt/10 lb bowl on Raytech TV-5 motor: So when the Raytech burns out I'm going to replace it with a Thumlers. If their motors are anything like their bowls they can take a licking and keep on ticking. I was at Harbor Freight last week and they had their vibe tumblers on sale so I got one for backup. I'm going to give it a tryout soon. They also had ceramic media, 5 lbs for $14.95. Not the best price but they are local. I'll try the media out when I test drive the Harbor Freight vibe tumbler. Rick - was it the 5/8 x 3/8 ceramic pellets or the smaller stuff?

You'll like the thumlers bowl, mine show no sign of wear after 2 1/2 years of constant use.

Oh wait, the triangles I have seen in the past had grit impregnated. The inert ones, are cylindrical with the ends cut at an angle. www.therockshed.com/grit2.html

I just tossed 3-4 handfuls of the Harbor Freight media in my vibe tumbler with a new batch of 95 cabs on 120/220. I'll run them through the 600 and 1000 cycle and see how they hold up. I have a bunch of the cylinder shapes and marbles in there with them too. The marbles are really showing the wear...

yeah, it makes sense that the glass media is showing the most wear.
