Well I spent last sunday cabbing again. Here is what I managed to get done. I got tired of the lousy SiC wheels on my machine and ordered diamond this week. I hope to get them on next weekend and expect a BIG difference. I wanted to try some new material but didn't have any preforms done and it was too cold to cut with the WF saw so I did mostly freeforms. My second boulder opal. I lost the first one right after doing it. This came from weeshan. I think this one is chrysocolla and hematite. It came from desertdweller. Some gary green pet bog from spiritstone. Iolite. I tried to get a back lit pic but I wasn't having any luck. It has more color than this pic shows. Lace agate. I got this piece in the $4 a pound bin at my local rock shop. The bin gets picked over pretty well and I was lucky to find this one. Ocean Jasper. Not a great piece but its my first try. It came from some tumble rough at the local shop. Didn't get real shinny though. Unknown moss (I think) from redwoodrocks Another unknown. Yet another unknown. Some Texas plume I got in the $4 bin. Another Texas plume. These would have made nice doublets but I'm too lazy and don't have a flat lap. Thanks for looking.

Looks like you're having fun, Tony! Very nice. My favorite is the lace. Some nice shapes you have there, from your templates? *grin*

Nice cabs, the gary green came out nice; I really like the lace too. That hematite and crysicolla looks like a cool combination.

Very nice cabs, my favorite is the Gary green pet bog. Very nice opal, too. I found very difficult to work with that material.

Thanks for the compliments. Amy these are all freeforms with the exception of the unknown moss. Adrian. I was told that this B.O. would be hard to work because the host rock was light rather than dark brown but I didn't seem to have much trouble with it. I started it on the 220 wheel. I have a pound and a half that rockhobbit got for me so I really need to figure out how to cut it.

Nice job Tony, love the Texas plumes. You're going to kick yourself when you put on the diamond wheels. Your first thoughts will be, Holy crap, why didn't I do this from the beginning! If I hadn't switched to diamond wheels, I probably would have given up trying to cab. Make sure you get a leather belt and some diamond paste to go along with the diamond wheels, it's the only way to go as far as polishing goes. There are the old timers who swear by oxide polishes, but why deal with the mess of mixing and applying the polish when you can put a dab of paste on the leather and go for a month or two before applying more, without the mess???!!!

Nicely done, Tony. Love that lace! .... and you'll love the diamond wheels. I polished on my pine wheel the other day and I really like it. Not as much bumping.... a much smoother ride for sure. But like Ed says leather is a must as well. I'm using both now. T

They came out great. I like the moss agate and the gary green bog the most. And holy cow that Texas plume is just amazing. Steve

The unknown is a type of lapis, I'm almost positive the piece you are calling iolite is also the same lapis. We had some large slabs that we broke down into chunks and then sold it in the tumbling mixes we put together for the shipping.
You sure do know how to cut a beautiful cab Tony, keep em coming.
