Here is hubby's first cab on the flat lap. He definitely needs to get used to working on it. It also could have used a longer polish but I think it's a keeper. If anyone knows what kind of rock it is let me know. Dot

Nice Dot! You got that flat lap going in a hurry. How do you like it?
Some kind of picture jasper.

Looks like he had fun!
I'd guess one of the McDermitt area picture jaspers. It might not get more of a shine, if that's what it is...

Thanks Curt and Akansan. He had it already out of the box and set up by the time I got home from work. It really makes quick work of shaping. It's gonna take getting use to holding the stones but once you find the right spot it works great!

Beautiful cab Dot! Are you going to set it like the cab in your avatar?

Thanks Adrian. I don't have anything special planned for it but a brooch is a good idea.
Thanks stonesthatrock.

There's no stopping him now. He should save one cab a week, put them away in a drawer, and after a year take them out and see how he's progressed. It'll be like night and day. His first cab is pretty nice though.

Nice looking cab. I thinking the mcdermit chicken trax, palamino or scenic dolomite; all picture type materials; all shine up nice, but not the high gloss you get with agate. Palamino is from Oregon and was mined in the 70s I think.

Thanks everyone. He has a nice pile that I have set for him to work on. He'll be busy for a while I think.
