When I was digging through my cabs to decide what to put in my display case I came across this one. It is about 2" high. Bob

It's easy to see why you want that one in your display. Nice colors and cool center. Steve

Very cool, Bob! I love that the druzy pocket ends inside the cab rather than just being a hole through the cab.

That's a knockout. How thick is it?

Tony, It is the usual cab thickness, somewhere about 3/16" to 1/4". Do you want me to measure it? Bob

Nicely done! How did you keep the druzy so clean while you worked it? T

Tony, I have a small (1 quart) ultrasonic cleaner that I have had for about 25 years that I use a lot. It is great for cleaning inside these areas as I work the piece. Grinding and sanding one of these is no peoblem because the water flowing over the cab washes the grits out. I do put the cab in the ultrasonic for a few seconds before I go to the polish and afterwords to remove the polish. I also use it to remove any excess polish from the dop and dop stick. Polish contaminates the dop wax rather readily and it weakens the bond to the stone on the next use. The ultrasonic does an excellent job of removing embedded polish that has gotten into fractures in a cab prior to sealing them with Opticon. The ultrasonic is a very necessary tool for jewelry making especially to remove any buffing compounds. As you can see, the machine is very durable and lasts a long time. The manufacturers want to sell you their expensive Ultrasonic cleaner but I have always just used the cheapest liquid hand dishwashing liquid and the cheapest liquid ammonia (not the sudsy type) for all of my needs. Thanks, Bob! That is another thing I'll have to add to my list of things I need I stuffed paper pulp in the several druz cabs I've done, and it worked, but not like your ultrasonic I have decided I need to get into lost wax casting, and I'm building myself a coffee can forge, ordering silver grain, and raiding bee hives for the wax I just need to add the ultrasonic to the list..... I sure wish you would do a tute on casting sometime, as I really love what I've seen of yours! Tony

Tony, I'm working on a tutorial on the begining steps of casting starting with making your own wax pen (for $25 to $30) and formulating a high plastic wax. I've been really busy getting my house ready to sell, making preparations to retire, moving my junk (its been 30 years in this house to collect junk) to my new house, storage, my kid's house, etc. so its a struggle to get it done. I've collected the parts and started writing the script. Maybe in about 2 to 4 weeks. Bob
