I don't know, I only have a few other recent shows as reference but I saw what I thought was a pretty good slab selection from the vendors that had them, there was a lot more finished and semi-finished things than I expected.
Your stuff was very impressive too Bob, that necklace is even more impressive in person than the picture
Oh, and THAT explains all those scouts!

Well with over 4500 attendees for the 3 days, how many were there to buy slabs or full-on-rough material? We had some slabs out, some carnelian, some tools and lots of "display" material (finished pieces, crystal chunks, etc). I think I saw at most a dozen people look at the slabs? I actually had four people accept my offer to look through the extra slabs when I offered and three of them are from this site the fourth is another rockhound friend. In my experience, indoor shows like this draw crowds that want to decorate with displayable pieces. "Tailgates" and outdoor shows get "dedicated rockhounds" that are looking for rough and slabs. There is a show in May in the foothills east of Stockton, CA. Valley Springs Pow Wow is an outdoor show that has more rough/slabs than I've seen outside of Quartzsite. Also a smattering of 'flea market' kinds of items though. The husband-half of the owners of the property where this is held just recently passed away so there are continuing rumours that the show may not continue many more years.

Yes, the Valley springs Pow wow is dedicated to the rough/slabs seeker, but it has a lot of other things going on. I really like the booth where the church ladies sell their home made pies! Delicious!!! The old gas engine displays are also interesting. I've been going there for upwards of 25 years so far. Funny thing though, I've never gone on the Saturday rock dig! I am planning on taking my grandson digging this year (weather permitting). It would be a shame if they discontinue the event.
