Hey everybody!
My wife, two kids and I headed off for a short holiday on Saturday morning. We spent 2 nights at a farm stay 12km (8 miles) from
another farm which is my favourite agate/jasper/carnelian/crystal hunting ground.
We all went to the "rock farm", as my kids call it, on teh first day. I went alone for a 1 1/2 hours the second day until it started to pour. On my last few trips out there I have found heaps of jasper and carnelian but no a whole ot of agate. This time I was determined to focus on agate and crystals.
On this farm there are around 12 cattle feed lots. Each one is around 1 acre in size. They have all been full of cattle for years and the ground has been covered in at least a few inches of cattle manure. Recently, however, all the cattle have been removed except for those occupying 1 feed lot and the ground has been scraped clean.
The owner recommended that I start hunting in these feed lots as, in his words, he had "seen a few little pieces here and there."
UNDERSTATEMENT OF THE CENTURY!!!
When I got to the feed lots it was as if a truckload of agate had been thrown over each of these feed lots. I could have spent 2 or 3 hours on each feed lot!
Anyway, here are some pics...
How's this for half a geode. the property owner found this a few years ago in a creek bank 3 km into his property. He had a friend cut it in half and they each kept half of it.
My beautiful wife and daughter in one of the feed lots. the kids loved this easy rock hunting.
My daughter Kelsey (3 1/2) and my son Lincoln (5). Georgeous kids aren't they?
The whole haul.
Some of the smaller pieces.
The biggest piece. Too big for my 7 inch blade but with all of the purple and pink showing through, I couldn't just leave it there.
I found a lot of stuffI had never seen before including this green jaspery stuff.
Some small amethyst crystals.
Now for some agates. These are just as I found them. They have not been cut. They have only cleaned and wetted down for the photos.
I love the "eye" in this one
The next two are of different sides of the same piece
There are another heap of photos in pt. 2 and pt. 3.
Thanks for looking.
Mike
