My wife and I just got back from Delta.
Here are a few of the pictures we took.
Everyone else feel free to add pictures to this thread.
We got there Friday morning, and found Ozzys' RTH sign nailed to the stop sign. We went a ways down the road and found another one and it took us right to Ozzys' camp. After we got camp setup, we headed over to Topaz mountain and found Roger and Sheri(sp?), we all decided to go up behind where we were camped and look for agates and jasper. We got quite alot of jasper and a few agates.
Here are from left to right;
Sheri and Roger, Myarta(sp?) Josh and Ozzy, Chris and Myself
Some of the local wildlife trying to run off
Friday afternoon we decided to drive up the road and see what we could find. We found a local sheepherder with his old 2 ton truck buried to the axles in a sandy wash. So we stopped and helped to pull him out. Sorry we didnt get any pictures. A ways further up the road we found some guys who were shooting guns and cannons across the canyon, they told us there were some old mines up the canyon so we went and checked them out.
One of the open holes
From the top of one of the structures looking down into one of the holes
the hole
the gang up on the road, I was wandering around down in the hole
another hole
another hole
This hole has its own door
My wife Chris and I posing by the big cable drum
heading farther up the road, about this time 4 air force jets flew overhead about 500 feet above us at a very high rate of speed and made us all look for a hole to jump in.
That pretty much used up friday afternoon.
Saturday morning we picked agates and jaspers around camp while we waited for other people to show up. Here is one of the big ones I lugged back in my backpack, you can just see the top of it peeking out.
About noon we decided to head up to Topaz Mountain so we caravaned up to the basin at Topaz Mountain, there were people everywhere, it was really crowded. After just a little while of 4 wheelers buzzing us, we decided to head for the Dugway Geode beds.
That is Roger and his wife Sheri leading us down the road.
The whole canyon we drove down is mining country. Here is a picture of one of the old mines off the side of the road. While we were out taking this picture Ozzy found a Tanzanite crystal right off the side of the road.
This is a marker telling us that the old Pony Express Blackrock station used to be on this site. Thats the blackrock in the background
We got to the geode beds and there is not one single picture on my camera from there, we were too busy digging. (Sheri did get quite a few pictures, so I hope you post them for us Sheri.) We got quite a few geodes, digging was very good.
This morning, (sunday) My wife Chris, Roger and I went up looking for Steve's topaz hole. We think we found it, but the only picture I got was of the crazy holes in all the rocks up there
check out the patterns in this rock, this rock is around 3-4 feet across
We left there and saw something shining on the hill, so we stopped to see what it was. It was apache tears galore!! We filled half of a 5 gallon bucket in about an hour.
On the way back we stopped to check out the open pit mine across the road. Steve told me what it was, but now I can't remember.
It has purple veins in it, and holes as deep as 150 feet and some several hundred feet across.
Then we went back and packed up our stuff and headed for home.
I got lots of good rocks, a sunburn, had a great time, and made some life long friends.
I only regret that we missed the others that did show up but we did not get to meet, hopefully next time.
On the way home we saw this on the side of the mountain and have no idea what it is, if anyone knows please chime in.
Thanks for lookin..................Tony
