Boy that's a beaut. I was fortunate enough to pick up a few slabs of that material a couple of years ago and darn, the stuff is so pretty I can't bring myself to cut any up for cabs....Mel

Wow, that's amazing! Is it a fern that was so big it was tree-like, and that's a cut of the trunk/base? Beautiful colors.

Randy, nope, I'm not going to cut this, I'll use it for display.
Amy, yes, tree ferns are just as you describe. This species is long ago extinct, but I think there some modern tree ferns still around... if I'm not mistaken there is a living tree fern native to New Zealand.
