OK, now I'll try this picture thing again.
This was our camp, just down the road from the Topaz Mt turnoff.
This is my wife , Sharri up on the hill overlooking our camp.
Sunset from our camp.
The first day we went looking for Topaz and saw some very beautiful scenery.
One of the strange looking volcanic rocks along the road.
Then we headed for the geode beds and stopped along the way to collect some Apache tears here.
A view from the road to Dugway.
When we got there, the man who has a commercial permit was digging.
Ozzy at the geode beds.
Tony with a pack full of geodes.
The last day, it was just Tony, Chris, and myself. Sharri stayed in camp to watch the puppies. We searched for Steve's Topaz hole, and Tony thinks he found it, but it was caved in (if that was it). So we headed down the road and found this old mine.
There was this purple stuff all over the place that we'd like to identify.
Tony checking it out.
The top of the shaft.
Looking down in. This was DEEP!
After Tony had to leave, I went to one other old mine and kicked around in the tailings and came up with this stuff. I think it may be malachite, but I 'm no expert. Can anyone tell me if it is?
Some of it even has some blue spots in it. Is that azurite?
Sorry that those last few are fuzzy, I haven't got this camera figured out yet. Anyway, we had a great time, I'm just sorry that we missed connecting with all of those that made the trip. It was great to meet Tony and Chris and Ozzy and his family. I hope we can do this again soon. I really enjoyed rockhounding with them. Hopefully I learned from this trip and I look forward to more.
