As you may remember, I'm going through cabbing withdrawl - BIG TIME Too!
My Lortone unit was emitting a high-pitched screeching sound - that started about 2 months ago - then a week or so after that episode, it just died! This unit is only about 2 years old too! I thought it was the motor but after removing the belt it the motor was turning fine. Phew!
I then lubed the whole thing best I could and "tried" to turn this thing by hand - it wouldn't budge! Drat! - I kept at it and finally managed to make it budge! Shoved all the little bits aside to see if I could get to the problem - and lubed it all - same screeching noise!
With help from BuiltonRock I took it apart (or what I could take apart) and found that it's probably a rusted bearing (what does a bearing look like? I haven't a clue - I only know the little ball bearings)
I then sent Lortone a nice email, and included the picture that John sent me of his much cleaner machine to show them what I had removed & cleaned - I just wanted to know if they could tell me what they thought the problem was and was expecting an email of some sort - turned out I got a phone call - he talked and I explained and he said that the guy who builds them would be there tomorrow and he'd call me at around 10AMish - true to his word, he did! He too thought it was the bearings and they said they'd send me a bearing - I asked how much (not knowing where to find one here in Canada it was easier ordering from them) he said they'd send it no charge! What a sweetie! They've always been super willing to help each time I had a problem - they sent me a blade last time - since the first one was crap!
I also learned that even with "Tool Cool" in the saw recepient, the water should be emptied out each time & the whole unit wiped down each time so's to prevent water related problems!
