I have never made one but was planning one a few years ago. I was to be about the same as the graves preformer but with some automation. www.gravescompany.com/preforme.htm

Do you know how they work? I would like to make one but don't want to re-invent the wheel... any ideas on designing one? Places to see a design online?

Sorry, I know how it works but I don't know how to describe it without drawings and photos. Here is a thread with photos that describe the use of a different machine that works on the same principal. www.yourgemologist.com/ISGForumsBoard/showthread.php?t=2904Something you might try is emailing the Graves company and ask if they can email the instruction manual to you for their unit. It should describe how it all works.

Thanks! I'm just having a bit of a problem getting the correct size by hand. That looks like a real monster of a machine!
