For you folks that have been around here for a while, these shots are a repeat, but for the newer people, this opalized wood is part of a 700 pound lot I purchased on ebay a couple of years ago. This wood comes from Northeastern Calif and was at one time used to make a fountain/pond in the backyard of a 150 year old house. I've got a few smaller chunks still and these large rounds. In this first pic, I've included my shoe as a size reference. Size 9 same piece without my foot covering the round. about 45lbs About 85lbs same one, looking down at it. This one is around 75lbs and is around 12" tall and has the bark all the way around it. These two are the smallest of the bunch, the one on the right is around 20lbs and the one one on the left is around 35lbs. Here's a pic of the entire lot when I got it home and unloaded it in my backyard, all 700lbs!

So, would those fit in a flat-rater?

Since its NE CAL stuff that has been around for a while...does it have fractures that you would associate with material that has gone through freeze/thaw cycles???

Flat rater? Not even the new larger flat raters!!!! Yea, some of the pieces are fractured, but these rounds looks pretty nice.

Great looking rounds Ed! Take the one with bark all the way around, cut it into 1 inch slabs, polish them and sell them to collectors for about $500 each.

Ed-
I remember that haul you made a few years ago. That was a pretty cool story!!! Good to see you have some of it left.

It's good to see that haul again. I still have a piece of it from when you first got it. It adorns my workbench!

That 75 pounder is screaming out for a contour polish I think.
