Certainly not as refined as your cabs you do today, they are pretty good. I like the last pair. I can see how your style has evolved. Thanks Ed.
I did laugh though, only at how bad my first cabs are.

The cabs have a lot that is right; polish, interesting designs and materia. A perfectly cut boring cab is still boring.
Most of my first cabs are large and clunky. My wife designed them and figured that I would have a hard time working on more delicate pieces.

Shoot Ed, your first cabs are actually pretty nice. My first ones were so bad they looked like they was done by an arthritic monkey on meth . They was so scratched up and gouged up they reminded me of my head after one of my mom's old home made haircuts she gave me when I was a hyperactive youngster!......Mel

I agree, they look a thousand times better than my first ones... Heck they look better than my last couple... lol

Those are not nearly as hilarious as mine are , but it gives me hope one day I too may be a cabber. Curt

I actually really like that second one, Ed! I found with my first ones that as long as I only did two at a time, they at least ended up polished. When I got all crazy and tried to do three one day - yes, a whole day - I still had scratches at the end!

I think we were all inspired by Sandsman in the beginning. Cool cabs, I actually remember seeing a few of those. So, come on folks, post your first cabs here, don't be shy!

Shoot! What's not to like? You had some good material and the shapes are great! Inventive, brave..... that second one, particularly, is great framing. Not even a snort or snikkle from here. T

KD, I love the pink one in the first photo and the center one in the second photo. I love how the silver swirls around in the brown. I don't do the cabs, but here is one of hubbys first ones done many moons ago. Dot

MY very first one was pretty good ( I learned at the club how to do this with a guide) it was a piece of leopard skin jasper ($2) that came out nice - the kite shape is blah (my pictures back then sucked more than they do now but you get the idea) - the oval turned out nice (I still have it) This is an amazing piece of lace - this fueled my love for the shine that I can only get from agates... Actually the first ones still look like my current ones...hmmm that's not good Dot: I love the beaded wrap on that one - is that peyote? I gotta try that again

Great idea, Ed, thank you for this thread! I like your first cab, especially the triangle (trd pic) and the circular one that you didn,t zoom on.

I remember them, it was just as exciting then to see what you guys were making as it is now. KD, you sent me that jasper hematite, center bottom picture. It now belongs to Colton.

Your firsts are pretty good. I can see how you are much better today. You can see in your first ones the master you are today though. You got so much right and were working with what was in the stone straight away. I don't think I have any pics of my first bunch. Most I redid. They were more beveled edges and boxy shapes

Hello, I'm still a newbie in cabbing, but here's my first one (I've done it in the end of the last year): Thank you for looking, Adrian

Okay, my first ones. You can see on the WWR one in the upper left that I was troubled with flats. I've redone most of those (just minor tweaking on shine and shape) since then, but I keept that WWR to remind me where I came from!
