i know its a hard sell....and will probably amount to nothing.... with the exposure of ebay and its popularity still going strong but dying at a fast rate as i see it.
is any of you willing to put the word out about a start up auction site that caters to the little guys at this point....maybe if we let everyone know about this start up site....maybe the rock world can find a little niche site.
i know there are other little niche sites for rock folks.....but you can buy ugly stuff on this site also ;D.
i aint gonna name the site just yet.....wanna get some feedback first about what yaw think.
why not i say.....does anyone think we can actually get an alternative to ebay up and running?.....maybe if we spread the word ;D....kev.

I have visited several alternatives, but I also thinkfor the near future there is no competitor to ebay.

Unfortunately, eBay seems to have a monopoly as far as online auctions. There are a lot of other auction sites, but none nearly as popular as eBay. That's why they can get away with their recent massive fee increase and the many new changes which totally screwed sellers.
I've sworn off of auctions. The time involved to get the rocks, weigh the rocks, take pics, post pics, write ads, answer questions, package orders, ship orders, etc, just isn't worth it for $10 here and $20 there. Honestly, eBay's fee increase caused me to re-think the whole situation, which brought me to the conclusion that it just wasn't worth it, even with their old fees.

Many have tried.........All have failed.
Not that it isn't worth a try, but it's a 99.99% failure rate so far.

I have some huge issues with ebay, but it is the only place I would consider selling because of the audience. I buy most of my rough and slabs there and generally have had a good experience even though I am buying from a picture. Although ebay discourages it I have emailed sellers that I have a long term relationship with if they have something that I am looking for that they don't have listed. I have also ordered some rough and slabs from other sites that have even sent me pictures of the material. Rock people are generally good people.
I am an active poster on a cigar board that has a box pass, trade and sell board. There are excellent deals, very few problems and a lot of activity; 7000 topics since 2004. I think the buy, sell swap board here is underutilized. I see a lot of drool material on the slabs and saws board but wouldn't consider asking. If I get the time, I'll set up my covington 16" saw and start cutting some rough. As a hobbyist I can't see cabbing everything I slab so there is bound to be a surplus and I'll post on the board.
I think there should more wanted posts on that board. The audience isn't that huge, but I bet a lot of requests can be filled. I check out that board regularly along with stonesthatrock's etsy site.

well i was thinking along the same lines of everyone else here i reckon....maybe just hoping we could we could try to leave the big bad ebay and gather auctions in 1 place besides ebay. dont take my word for this but i was told it was started by former big ebay sellers....and some have been kicked off ebay for mentioning the site on ebay discussion boards. i had a little trouble getting signed up at the site and when i emailed the site the owner responded personally and fixed me right up with a couple of emails...even offered to call i think. i wasnt going to mention the site cause i wanted to bid on something....and thought a lurker here might see it....and outbid me....but that doesnt matter now ;D. the site is neoloch.com/ yep...very few bids going on....i understand they are about to start advertising....owner said if rock folks come he will create new categorys as needed...thought that was cool....but im sure he will... wants to make a buck also i reckon ;D anyway take a look at the site tell me what ya think...i have seen the yahoo and google crawlers logged in there...so i know search engines are visiting and picking up keywords. i was just thinking if a lot of rock folks started mentioning the site....maybe it could be a good thing later on....i know...i know....im just thinking and typing with my goofy self ;D...kev.

I'm guessin' a cigar pedigree's easier to come by than a rock pedigree.

Rich although Cuban cigars are illegal to buy U.S. residents, there are a lot of fake Cuban cigars sold outside of Cuba. Also, anything that is expensive may be faked. stonesthatrock the cigar board is called herfersparadise. To see the trade board you may need to register. There is no charge or spam generated.

I just looked at Neoloch. The "Collectibles > Rocks, Fossils, Minerals" section is empty.
