I had to remind myself this weekend why I wanted a saw. Repeatedly remind myself, that is. I made a nice little oil/sludge sucker a la Catmandewe on Friday, and on Saturday put it to use. That is, I started to on Friday, but my neighbors didn't care for the high pitched scale my accordion tubing made. So, there I was on Saturday. I had a corner of my saw propped up to help the flow of the oil and away I sucked. But I noticed not all of it was coming. Evidently my previous oil changes weren't complete changes (which requires the lifting of my saw body off the base), which has let the sludge practically solidify around the edges. Prior changes have just been turning on the spigot and letting it poor out the drain built into the bottom. Only the spigot is now clogged. Beyond completely taking off the saw arm (removing the shaft and motor carrier, etc.), there's no practical way for me to remove the saw body by myself. Anyway, that's just background. So, what did I do? I stuck my arm in the tiny hole that the pump fits in with a piece of straight plastic in my hand. I think I've broken up most of the sludge now. But my nails are a lovely grease color.

To really do the job right, you have to get the sludge on you, your clothes, your hair, the floor, the door handle, the kitchen floor, the bathroom door handle and the floor mat in front of the toilet, so it seems for me. I try to clean the saw only if my wife is gone for most of the day. Bob

You gotta get the gunk all over you and every thing else or else it aint clean. I have only done 2 oil changes and cleanings but it looks like new when I am done. I even re-grease the slides with a little white grease.

Oh grease colored nails!!!! Its starting to become a fashion statement.
I think the accordion tubing would make you lose suction. I have since thrown the pipe end away and just use tubing, it works much better. Every once in a while I get plugged up without the pipe end, but I just tap on the tube with a wrench for a bit and it will eventually dislodge and start the suction back up again.
Hope it gets easier for ya.............Tony
