I took my cousin and his son out looking for agates on Sunday morning. We went to one of my old hunting areas and found a couple of backpacks full, then thought we would try a new draw. We found agates laying on the ground like chicken feed!! (And of course I forgot to take my camera!!) I think we have some newly confirmed rockhounds!! My cousin just sent me this picture of his boy holding a nice agate chunk that we found, just a speck of agate was showing, so we dug it up and it turned out to be this big plate. He was pretty proud of it. ![](http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z229/catmandewe/Image3Medium.jpg) The camas lillys are in bloom, they are the purple flowers down by the creek. These were an important food source for the indians of the area, they would come every spring and harvest them. ![](http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z229/catmandewe/DSC01926Medium.jpg) Half the haul in the back of my pickup, we had already dropped off the other half at my cousin's house. ![](http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z229/catmandewe/6-01rockroom006Medium.jpg) a few closeups ![](http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z229/catmandewe/6-01rockroom005Medium.jpg) ![](http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z229/catmandewe/6-01rockroom007Medium.jpg) We had a ball and they are already talking about another trip soon! Thanks for looking...............Tony

Boy that looks like a lot of fun Tony. I'm pretty jealous that you get to find this stuff so close to home. Of course I could always move out west but I guess I'm too lazy for that. lol

Wow! I'm with TonyT, I can't believe you live where you can just pick this stuff up! My friends think I'm crazy, I keep eyeing their landscaping rocks...
Nice haul! Especially the big one your cousin's son found!

Great shots Tony...I am still waiting for you to find that opal mine in your back yard...the rock gods are looking after you for sure!! Larry Funny you should mention that, there is an old opal mine about 20 miles from my house, it takes a pretty good 4x4 to get to it. The old guy who owned it passed away a couple years back, and I ran into his son a few months ago. I asked him what they were gonna do with the mine, he said it was for sale, but that if I wanted to go play around in it I was more than welcome to because no one else has an interest in it. I have poked around in it, and I go out there every deer season, because it is just loaded with deer. It may warrant a day or 2 to do some digging and see what turns up. I will try not to forget my camera when I go, it is some really cool country. Tony

Okay Tony, I'll bite! Trying to figure out where you took the pic.. My guess you is went SSW some, but not too far because i only see flat land in the distance. OR, maybe toward Mt Home a bit. Am I close? Then a again, if you were UP in the Owyhees, there is always that possibility if you were facing east, but I dont think so! Opal mines, 20 miles or so.. sommercamp rd. area? Or by my house up Eagle Rd? GRRRRRRR, those danged developers have closed off the really GOOD spots between here and Pearl..There is a ton of water flowing out of the old pearl mines though, bits of pacer gold coming out of the one with the old mercedes on top.. You must share the opal mine!

dang, now I am looking through pics, McIntyre spring? poison creek rd? Doesnt look like graveyard point agate so....I am headed out toward the Owyhee blue area soon. Too bad the claim out there is so big, I am hoping to scour up some that may be dangling in another outcrop nearby. I did come across some that was close, very close, to the bright blue and not that far away from the claim ( a mile or 2?) a few weeks ago. Irritated a bunch of cows in the process! Must study some more topo maps!

Hey Debbie, If you want to go to the opal mine I will go out there with you. It is really hard to just tell where it is, but I can take you to it. The agates came from Bennett Mountain. Sounds like you have some good areas down your way, we should meet up and go hunting, either direction is fine with me.

AH, well Mt home area WAS one of my thoughts! I generally head towards Owyhee on my afternoon jaunts. I like to use the BLM geocommunicator for info out there. My obsession with the hunt keeps me studying geologic data as well.
