A few miles east of Shoshone, on highway 172, the mountain was cut away when they made the highway, exposing this geological event: I stopped there once, just as it was getting dark, and quickly grabbed a little of the "black stuff". When I got it home, I discovered it was just crumbly junk. I'm now curious if it may be worth another trip down there, earlier in the day, to look for some good stuff. I'm wondering if there may be lapidary-grade Obsidian there (the black stripe is volcanic stuff). Also, I recall reading that there's some nice rhyolite in that cut (the reddish stripes?). Anybody been there and found any good stuff?
