Hey there, Noosh! I forget how to include links in my posts, sorry! Get to the main screen of location location location and find the search icon in the blue bar on the top (if you have the same color scheme I have!) Search for houston. Remember, you have to be in the screen that lists all of the "location..." posts, not in this specific thread.
One of the few messages there is from Blarneystone. Don't let his "new member" status fool you, that's just an account thing. He's very experienced.
He recommends getting on the banks of the Brazos in his post. I haven't had a chance to go myself.
I don't recall if there are any posts about galveston, try a search for that, too!
Welcome again to RTH. I used to live in Clear Lake (Now I'm up near Intercontinental Airport).

Roger,
Fellow Houstonian here. In our area (Houston-Gulf Coast) there is nothing, other than what people put down for landscaping and gardens. But there's a great swath, from Somerset to College Station to Lake Livingston and Jasper and East Texas that's home to tons and tons of petrified wood, jaspers and a few agates. Not too far and definitely worth the drive. Some of us have gotten together for a couple hunts and have talked of doing so again, although it may be fall before we're all able to do so.
What's been your experience around Texas?

Here's some cabs and shapes I've cut with material found in the Houston area. (Sorry for the very large pictures) All this was collected in or near the Brazos River... Red Jasper w/a bit of Hematite thrown in... an early cab... not very good but the material is nice No idea what this is but took a great shine... Tumble polished Red Jasper shape-ochon (picture has been enhanced a little bit) Pet Woods; Grade 'A' Silica Wood That's all the examples I can show you right now... just to give you an idea of what can be found here.... This is a rock club I am going to Thursday. It will be my first time. It was said that Jasper had some stuff to hunt and east Texas too. That is my area. I just thought I would tell ya'll about it in case you might want to to join too. I know it would be a long drive for some. I would like to get in on that fall hunt. Dawn www.jas.net/~nash/
