I have always used the AO when tumbling in my rotarys and it works great. The stuff from the Rock Shed is the best I have found.

Aluminum oxide (.5 micron or finer) works on everything cerium does (agates, jaspers, etc.) and also on softer materials (boulder opal, turquoise, etc.) I have not tried the super ceriums yet but understand they are amazing on agates and especially on petrified wood.
