Took these last night before the storm really got rolling clouds It's taken me several attempts, but I finally got lucky last night and was able to photograph some lightning. I set my camera on the "firework" setting while on a tripod, this leaves the shutter open for seveal seconds. I would take pictures at random, and hope to get lightning to show during the few seconds the shutter is open. I'm just not quick enough to react to the lighning. I gave up trying to take any pics once the clouds, rain and hail really rolled in, the lighting was just flashes in the sky do to being wrapped in cloud. Thankfully, there was no damage to anything in my area. There was some twisters reported across the border from Nebraska in western Iowa, and some storm damage in other areas of eastern Nebraska. thanks for looking, Alex

Wow, those clouds look scary - not like normal storm clouds. I'd probably have run & hid - my hat's off to you for being able to stay there & get the pictures! The lightning pics are very cool. You're lucky though that you were OK & that it didn't turn into a tornado.

I'd be scared of those ominous clouds. They look alive! Beautiful photos but unsettling at the same time. Glad to hear you got through that safe without any damage. Good think those clouds didn't make tornadoes where you were. Steve

Gee, they just look like typical storm clouds to me. Did you get any of the weather last night? That was a fun one down here...

akansan, yup, regular ol "we gunna get a whuppin' tonight" storm clouds. we didn't get any of the thursday night nasty stuff. I took a quick trip last night to a town that really took a beating, i would guess about 90% of the trees were damaged, with 20% of the trees will have to be cut down.

Those are some great lightening captures and dark foreboding clouds! Time to head for the potato cellar!
