Well yesterday was Sunday. Can anyone guess what I was doing? Yup cabbing, among other rock related things. Here's the cabs I did.
Rutilated quartz. Well I am still trying to get a glass-like shine on quartz. This is closer than I had been. Someone told me I wasn't working on the lower grits enough and using a 10x loupe I found out he was right. I worked much longer on this one. Still not like glass but much better.
Owyhee jasper.
Ocean jasper. Got this at my local rock shop. It was sold as tumble material but a few of the chunks were big enough for cabs.
Malachite. Bought this on saturday at a rock show. It was sold as a specimen but was only $1.
Well I always complain that there isn't any local stone worth cabbing. I now stand corrected. This is serpentine with blue quartz (some druzy) and a brown matrix rock. Its found in a local abandoned quarry. I was worried it would be soft but it was probably a 6 so not bad for a cab.
Some of Sabre's "tumbling" laguna. I sliced up a couple of the smaller nodules before cabbing so I just had to give it a try. Really nice stuff.
