Well yesterday was Sunday. Can anyone guess what I was doing? Yup cabbing, among other rock related things. Here's the cabs I did. Rutilated quartz. Well I am still trying to get a glass-like shine on quartz. This is closer than I had been. Someone told me I wasn't working on the lower grits enough and using a 10x loupe I found out he was right. I worked much longer on this one. Still not like glass but much better. Owyhee jasper. Ocean jasper. Got this at my local rock shop. It was sold as tumble material but a few of the chunks were big enough for cabs. Malachite. Bought this on saturday at a rock show. It was sold as a specimen but was only $1. Well I always complain that there isn't any local stone worth cabbing. I now stand corrected. This is serpentine with blue quartz (some druzy) and a brown matrix rock. Its found in a local abandoned quarry. I was worried it would be soft but it was probably a 6 so not bad for a cab. Some of Sabre's "tumbling" laguna. I sliced up a couple of the smaller nodules before cabbing so I just had to give it a try. Really nice stuff. Back lit. Another from Sabre's laguna but for a different nodule. Opps that was 8 not 7. Well one was actually done a few weeks before. Thanks for looking.

Really nice batch. That OJ is so awesome and the Owyhee is lined up perfect. Great work.

The owhee is spectacular any way you look at it - the symettry is awesome
Although they're all great - I have a special weakness for the clear & gold rutiles - wish I could find some (and I can't see anything wrong with any of them!)

Tweetiepy I bought this one as a specimen. Cost me $5 and I'll get two cabs our of it. That's way more than I like to spend but I love rutilated quartz too.
