I found a great source for tiny diamond drills. My dentist! After my last appointment I asked about his old drill bits. He autoclaved and gave me a bunch of them. They are NICE! Many are tapered bits, going from .8mm to 1.2mm in diameter. There are also straight 1mm bits. The bits are short but the diamond coats much of the length of the bit so they should be of use while carving. They fit into the Dremel just fine. I have used a few of them now and I love them! Ask for diamonds next time you see a dentist!

I started getting diamond bits from my dentist about 5 years ago and they work quite well, especially if you get the coarse diamond ones. There are a lot of shapes and sizes, and all of them are useful. I have even found uses for the carbide drill bits when a project does not require diamond. One day I asked my dentist if I could look through his catalogs and pick out the ones I could use the most. He placed an order for me and the price was very reasonable. But now I have switched over to triple-ripple drill bits and they work so well, I rarely use any others.

Wouldn't they be too worn out to work if they're not good enough for softer teeth?
I too thought of this on my last dentist visit

Tweetie, my dentist uses a bit for one patient and tosses it. I looked at them under magnification and they are practically brand new! He gave me about 50 of them and said there were lots more if I liked them. Go on, give it a try. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)
