Well, I don't know if there is anything around SW Florida besides white corral and seashells, but a vacation to the North Georgia mountains has got me hooked! I've come back with a bunch of rough (topaz, rubies, sapphires, garnets, quartz), and I'm excited to get started. Oh yes, and a brand new tumbler.
When I was a kid in NJ, my dad had a rock tumbler, and he has a collection of rocks and gems scattered around the house to this day. I guess it's in the blood.
Hello to all! Glad to be here.
Anyone else out there know how to do this hobby in Florida?

Hey, welcome to the RTH thang! From Nebraska, the land of no rocks, LOL.
Please, hon, do me a favor, and before you put all your rocks into one tumbler, do a little more research. You have some very cool rocks, and I'd hate to see them rotating endlessly to no purpose.
Good luck to ya!

Hello Gracemakers. I'm a Florida rocker, not that we have any rocks here, LOL. Glad to see you here. Listen to Karenfh, you don't want to be to hasty with your collection of gems. Go through the threads here and learn which ones can be tumbled together without crushing each other. Some are harder than others and the delicate type will forever be gone. Good luck to ya. Glad your here!!

Welcome & ditto on the tumbling advice. When you are tumbling you need to be aware of the hardness of the material you're tumbling, or you may wind up with only mud at the end of your tumbling! There are people here who are expert tumblers & have put tons of information about how to do it in the tumbling section. I'm looking forward to seeing that first batch!

Welcome to the board. If your experience is like mine you are going to have a blast with the board. I have already gone in two trips with members of this board...my collection of rocks went from a handful to more than I can store in my backyard. If you ever decide you want to trade rocks from FL, let me know I can get you rocks from the West coast including Utah, Oregon, CA and AZ. Ozzy H. Orem, UT Good luck and welcome
