rockfromahardplace posted this link for making a cheapo light box tinyurl.com/29tcpo and here is the first test of the cheapo I made. I wasn't able to caputre the shine they have, but this pic turned out better than the ones i tried taking yesterday. Your opinion on the pic quality, and the vibe polished wanna be cabs please. Thanks, Alex

Well, first of all, you should change the title of your post because these look like cabs to me, not wanna be's. Next, this is the same light box I made, but I used some heavier material for the sides, so I'll try thinner material so I can get more light and then try my usual black background. Your pic looks great.

They look just like cabs to me too! Great pictures...I really gotta get with it here, and build me a lightbox for photographing. It sure makes a huge difference. What is that material?? A few of them look like a Burro Creek nodule I received from Tony. Steve

It's probably just my old eyes, but the cabs look slightly blurry to me. If that is the case, you might want to try a tripod. The shine will not show when using a light box. The purpose of a light box is to take pictures without a glare.
Very good job!

Cool, thanks for the compliments guys, Steve, I made two boxes last night in less than 20 minutes, so they are easy to make, and particular ones (except the orange one) came from slabs that were marked as Montana Moss. Woodie, this pic was taken on a tripod and with a two second delay. I'm thinking they look a bit fuzzy because there are no real edges. slab cut on a workforce, edges ground off w/ a bench grinder and thrown in the vibe 2 days 120/220, 1 day 500, 1 day 800, 1 day tin oxide. Thanks for the info on the no glare.

I think your pics are great, and I think your CABS are beautiful. I'm in a Yahoo group that is devoted to all things "wire wrapped" jewelry and beads and EVERYTHING. They use (with stunning results) every shape of rocks/beads. In this very popular world, those are CABS.
I really need a camera but I just can't afford one anytime soon. Yours appears to do a great job at capturing detail. Nice job!

What's the name of the group you belong that is devoted to wire wrapping, etc? I think there's more then one and some are better then others. Todd

Absolutely cabs. This is how I started out but quickly went to the more traditional way of polishing on a grinder.
