Can someone tell me what makes a rock a cab not a polished rock? When can you call a polished rock a cab.
thanks Roger

I just deleted a big response, I'll replace it with this, if you can set it, or wrap it, or otherwise make it into jewelry, it's a cab. I can't go this far because some people wrap tumbled stones that have never been shaped. For me it is the shaping. If it has been traditionally domed and given a girdle, or if it has been slabbed and rounded, or low dome, high dome, flat-top, ... etc - no issue. But for me there is some deliberate shaping. I know tumbling is not only an art, but also a far cry from the raw stone, but the element of design and decision is missing. Although I suppose we could call some tumbled rocks "found" cabs or "natural" cabs. So, some polishing of some parts and some active shaping. If it is small it is a cab, and if it is large it is a sculpture. But what really matters is was it fun to produce and fun to have. I guess this is the rose by any other name. I would imaging that someone trying to sell pieces should be careful of language so there are no misunderstandings, but I responded to this question in the hobbyist sense.

In 2002, before I started cabbing, my wife bought a lot of cabs on ebay. There are from a seller on ebay called penson. He still does cabs, but he doesn't do these any more: So are these cabs?
