Well Ed...we better caution the neighbors...I see a bow and some targets in your future LOL...Those are sweet works of art...kinda makes you wonder how the natives that were here before us were so skilled with so little to work with...every once in a while we find a point in the fields here in Ohio made from obsidian...what a trade network that must have been!!!

Wow! Awesome knapping job. That smaller one is a dead ringer for one of the famous Crump Lake points out of eastern Oregon...Mel

Both of them are amazing, but the big one left me speechless! What a detailed shape at the base! What a symetry!

Thank you guys for the kind comments, but these (double sided cabs) are not very tricky to make. All you need is a slab of material and a dowel rod with a copper nail in it and a little patience. The difficult part of knapping is the percussion work that is done with a baton or hammerstone. Mr. Jack Hemphill (knapper 42 ) is a very prolific knapper from Texas and does some very fine work. It would be great if we could get him to post some of his (double sided cabs ). I believe he has even designed a fixture for knapping for folks like myself that are the proud owners of what could be refered to as a WIMPY grip. I think Mr. Hemphill does a bit of work with Agate and I just bet that everyone would enjoy looking at some of those beauties. If someone knows Mr. Hemphill try and twist his arm a little and see if he would show us some of his points !

Hey, Harley, just for your info. Don't sell your skills short! At the Lincoln rock show, they were selling "authentic" but not old arrowheads for $5-25 each. (they did make that distinction; authentic but not old). The arrowheads in question were not nearly as beautiful and intricate as yours. Nor did they use the rocks you did. And, as a past cub/boy scout leader, I would have to disagree about the difficulty involved. My pack tried so hard! Maybe we had bad rocks, LOL. That's my first thought; we used NE rocks. Perhaps you have a better way? Regardless, I surely do respect your work! Thanks so much for your info and such. Your work is amazing. K

If you go to U-Tube and search Flintknapping Videos you can find info on just about every aspect of flintknapping you want to research. Videos by:
Flintknapping Tips (Marty Reuter ) Paleomanjim (Jim Wynn ) Bohunter
are the most informative and well shot of the dozens available for viewing.
